The San Diego Padres opened their 2010 spring exhibition season yesterday at Peoria, dropping a 9-3 decision to the Seattle Mariners, however, in todays official opener, the Padres posted an 8 spot in the 3rd inning en route to crushing Seattle, by an equal score of 9-3.

New Padres outfielder Aaron Cunningham blasted a bases loaded double to lead the outburst in the 3rd inning. Cunning ham came over to San Diego in the Kevin Kouzmanoff deal, has not yet been afflicted by basesloadeditis, a unique Padre affliction in which bases loaded situations require a pop out and a double play grounder. Lets hope Cunningham can be so fruitful while facing Roy Halliday...

Third baseman Chase Headley contributed a 2 run double, also in the 3rd.

Mat Latos worked 2 innings, allowing 1 run on a walk to Ken Griffey Jr, who came around to score, and Wade Leblanc also got in some work, pitching 2 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs.

Padre pitching shut down the Mariners for the rest of the game, led by Sean Gallagher and Aaron Poreda, who both pitched 2 scoreless innings.

Padre hurler Jon Garland makes his San Diego spring debut on Saturday, facing the Mariners in the 3rd of a 4 game  series. Garland was signed last month to bolster a young Padre pitching staff, which has talent, but needed a vet.

Garland is expected to equal his 200 inning pitched last season, split between Arizona and Los Angeles.
